BASEL OFFICE - Port Operations Assistant

PURPOSE OF POSITION

 

We are expanding our maritime operations team and are looking for a dedicated individual to fill the new role of Port Operations Assistant. The Port Operations Assistant’s general responsibility will be to follow up on day-to-day port operations for our Ocean cruise ships – supporting both the ships directly and the land-based operations team.

 

Based in Basel, Switzerland, the Port Operations Assistant will be working closely with planning, execution and follow-up of port related activities for our Ocean and Expedition cruise ships worldwide. This includes securing berth reservations and ensuring our vessels are given best possible service whilst in port, as well as monitoring daily port costs through our worldwide network of port agents. Furthermore, the Port Operations Assistant will be involved in researching port information and keeping this information up to date. The role will entail some degree of travelling for planning and in support of ships’ operations.

QUALIFICATION PROFILE

 

The ideal candidate is either just getting started in their career and looking for an entry level position in the cruise industry or has some experience from general shipping operations and is looking for a new challenge. As the organization is set to expand over the next years, the candidate must be set to adapt to the changing needs and growth of the company. Apart from this, we are looking for someone with the following strengths:

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Professional Skills  

  • “Super User“ for ports module in Viking's cruise management software for all ports called by OCean and Expedition ships
  • Follow up on standard operating procedures for all activities handled by Port Operations
  • Monitor and follow up as required on port terminal experience for guests and port agents’ performance
  • Follow up and monitor cost reductions on port-related services and purchases
  • Support the fleet as required during special events or emergencies in ports called
  • Assist in the research and development of new itinerary port facilities
  • Assist the management team in the event of itinerary deviations 
  • Maintain and update the content of the MXP system for the Operation Area
  • Assist in the company’s Emergency Response Organization

 

Guest Excellence

  • Monitor guest satisfaction scores for the Operation Area and strive to continually improve them through support of ship’s staff, maritime operations team and local representatives Communication & Coordination

  • Maintain business contacts with established suppliers and agents
