BASEL OFFICE - IT Operations Manager Ocean and Expedition

Viking is a strong and dynamic company - with a growing fleet of more than 80 river ships and seven ocean vessels cruising over 100 itineraries around the world. In 2022, our guests will experience all the comfort and elegance of our award-winning fleet with two expedition ships built specifically to explore the world's most remote destinations. We will also expand our operations to the U.S. with the addition of a new Mississippi River ship.

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION

As the IT Operations Manager Ocean and Expedition, you will be responsible for managing daily operations of all technology vendors, systems and processes onboard our Ocean and our upcoming Expedition ships. Your main tasks will be the monitoring and maintenance of all IT systems, storage, network and related infrastructure onboard the vessel. You will report to the Head of IT Onboard Operations.

Travel within this position is around 20 per cent worldwide.

This role will be located in Basel, Switzerland. Please note that we can only accept candidates who are eligible to work in Switzerland or are in possession of a relevant work permit.

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Together with the Head of IT Onboard Operations, lead the onboard System Manager and its assistant
  • Provide operational oversight and support for all Information Technology systems and processes onboard our ships
  • Evaluate, recommend and implement IT solutions that support functional and corporate initiatives
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, as well as verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
  • Verify that any back-up procedures are carried out and have been verified as successful in line with Viking IT policies
  • Maintain operational, configuration or other policies and procedures as instructed
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades and resource optimization as required
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment
  • Maintain appropriate hardware inventory levels, ensure that all IT equipment is in good working condition, including PCs, printers, point of sale systems, servers and related hardware
  • Provide basic user training and support in use of common PC software and specialized property management software as needed
  • Monitor and support the satellite communication systems to ensure that the system is operating to optimum performance

 

YOUR PROFILE

  • You have more than four years’ experience working in the cruise industry in a similar role 
  • Strong experience using MXP
  • Fluent in English. Fluency in Bosnian and intermediate level of German is highly preferred
  • General education with a focus in IT
  • Experience running IT systems for Expedition vessels, such as performing IT systems operational set ups from scratch in a vessel
  • Experience in monitoring IT systems, including but not limited to: satellite connectivity, PBX system, point-of-sale systems, infrastructure and network of the vessels
  • Very good know-how of LAN, WAN, Internet and Intranet onboard systems
  • You have experience providing 1st and 2nd level IT support for the smooth running of onboard operations
  • You possess strong working knowledge of IT operating systems, especially Microsoft Windows, Apple (iOS and MacOS) and Linux
  • Inventory Management experience

  • Extensive knowledge of safety policies for cruises and IT policies for systems operating in cruises
