BASEL OFFICE - HR Manager

Viking is a strong and dynamic company - with a growing fleet of more than 80 river ships and seven ocean vessels cruising over 100 itineraries around the world. In 2022, our guests will experience all the comfort and elegance of our award-winning fleet with two expedition ships built specifically to explore the world's most remote destinations. We will also expand our operations to the U.S. with the addition of a new Mississippi River ship.

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Manager Human Resources (MHR) is ultimately responsible for all HR-related activities in a clearly defined set of vessels (operation). Moreover, the MHR is the core HR partner to the Senior Officers onboard all ships within the Operation Area and acts as an adviser in HR-related matters and in support of Vikings Employee Performance Review processes. The MHR reports to the Senior Manager Human Resources.

This role is based in our Operational Headquarters in Basel, Switzerland. Please note that we can only accept applicants who are eligible to work in Switzerland or in possession of a valid work permit.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage HR Administration and wellbeing of crew in an effective & compliant manner
  • Maintain employee records
  • Prepare contract documents for employees and support with visa application process
  • Maintain close business relations with the responsible core team
  • Maintain business contacts with recruiting & payroll department
  • Act as employee relations agent for assigned area to ensure compliance
  • Control staff satisfaction and initiate action to improve in coordination with COM
  • Support responsible COM with deployment of management positions
  • Coordinate employee performance review activities in area
  • Supports the onboard Senior Officer with the HR administration and vacation planning
  • Conduct ship visits to foster relations with the core team and the onboard management

 

YOUR PROFILE

  • Graduated education or professional experience in HR ideally in hotel / tourism industry
  • Fluency in English and German
  • International experience / experience on a ship is nice to have
  • Excellent computer knowledge (MS Office), administrative experience
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, service-oriented and guest focused
  • Positive personality, organized, flexible, team player, creative, stress resistant and resilient
