BASEL OFFICE - Senior Manager Accounting

ROLE DESCRIPTION

  • The Senior Manager Accounting ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.
  • The Senior Manager Accounting reports to Executive Director of Ocean Accounting

 

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

External audit

  • Key stakeholder for the audit review (quarterly, interim and year end)
  • Liaising with our auditors on PBC lists and queries
  • Preparing analytical review analysis on results for the auditors
  • Reviewing the workpapers and support prepared by the team
  • Preparing accounting memos for external audit purposes under IFRS

Internal audit

  • Liaising with Viking internal auditors
  • Analyzing control risk areas and proposing possible solutions
  • Implementing agreed process improvements to better support the Viking control environment

Budgeting

  • Liaising with the LA FPA team, the Basel Financial reporting team and the Business in regards budgeting and forecasting

Financial analysis

  • Helping to prepare monthly group reporting packs to send to Group audit team in LA, and also helping to prepare qualitative and quantitative narratives to support the mgmt. reporting processes

Month end

  • Standard month end process such as preparation of GL reconciliations, posting of journals in high risk areas (debt, impairment etc.)
  • Responsible for IFRS review and memo writing for complex accounting issues, such as debt financing, ship capitalization and other IFRS matters
  • Review of work performed by Junior and Senior Accountants
  • Analyzing and critically evaluating month end/ quarter end results to pick up possible errors in cut off or calculations before closing to reduce group reporting errors

Process Improvements

  • Review of current processes and proposing possible ways to automate or gain efficiencies in current practices (e.g. Excel macros, Power BI reports etc.)

Ad hoc projects

  • Managing and aiding with ad hoc projects such as accounting for new loans/financing, accounting for newly delivered ships, ERP transformation projects, group financing projects with the LA corporate finance team, acquisitions and disposals, Senior Management requests, tax reviews etc.

Team

  • Leading, supporting and mentoring the financial accounting team as it grows

 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualified accountant is a must (CPA, ACCA or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of IFRS and accounting principles
  • 5-10 years accounting/finance experience, a number of which are in a supervisory role.
  • Excellent English skills, both verbally and written
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized in work
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

 

EDUCATION

  • You have a Bachelor’s in Accounting or Business Management


NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with MS Dynamics would be an asset
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external parties to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results
