Description

The Gangway Team Leader is a member of the hospitality department with the responsibility of enforcing security at the gangway, maintaining accountabilities for all guests/crew, assisting all guests while transiting on/off the vessel, leading the gangway team ensuring responsible guest interactions, and maintaining the sanitation of the vessel. The member also participates in hotel operations and emergencies while always including the well-being of the passengers and crew members while on duty

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains gangway watch at podium providing security checks in accordance with VSP
  • Maintain passenger accountability via passenger & crew check-in/check out
  • Maintain visitor accountability/check-in
  • Maintains compliance at the gangway with current MARSEC levels
  • Confirms all onboard to Captain in accordance with pre-departure procedures
  • Actively leads gangway team and participates in embarking duties such as loading, unloading, luggage carrying, etc., as needed
  • Assist as liaison for internal communications
  • Assist in case of emergency
  • Assist in hotel operations cleaning as needed
  • Comply with safety regulations and operating procedures
  • Respond to all General Alarms and emergency situations per the Station Bill
  • Participate and ensure participation in all USCG-mandated drills and emergency procedures as directed
  • Maintain personal berthing area in accordance with company policy
  • Always maintain a professional appearance while always complying with uniform and grooming standards
  • Performs other duties if required since above stated describe only a regular working day and may not be inclusive of every task needed to achieve results

Requirements & Qualifications

Education:                                                                  

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent Required

Professional Certification(s) or License:

  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) –ability to obtain and maintain
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Copy of DD214, if Veteran status

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be fluent in English
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a pleasant and professional manner
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle emergency response
  • Logically and independently plan, organize, and complete work assignments

Experience:

  • At least one year of experience in a position with similar duties and responsibilities
  • Cruise industry experience preferred

Physical:

  • Must submit to and pass mandated USCG physical
  • Ability to conduct work in a marine environment that is subject to some/all the following: confined spaces, uneven surfaces, variations in temperature, wake, and motion
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders

Other: 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Submit to and pass Viking Alcohol and Drug Policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident/incident testing.
