ASSISTANT LAUNDRY MASTER

PURPOSE OF POSITION

  • The Assistant Laundry Master assists the Laundry Master to manage and control a variety of laundry functions to ensure the smooth running of the daily operation of laundry and dry-cleaning.
  • You are required to take over the Laundry Masters duties, with the necessary training, in their absence.
  • It is your responsibility to create a friendly, guest-oriented service culture to ensure Guest satisfaction and repeat business, which in turn, will increase revenue and profitability of the company.

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and maintain officers’ uniforms, Guest laundry and crew laundry & uniforms, and perform a final inspection on laundered items to ensure that all items are cleaned according to company policies & procedures and all Public Health Policies.
  • Assist the Laundry Master to ensure that all linen is staged and stored safely. Linen should under no circumstance be piled above the red safety line, obstruct exits & escape areas or limit access to safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, water tight doors and fire doors.
  • Ensure that all preventative actions are taken by laundry personnel to prevent spontaneous combustion.
  • Assist the Laundry Master to regularly inspect laundry areas to ensure that these areas are according to company policies and procedures and employee health and fire/chemical safety. Any damages/malfunctions found during such inspection must be corrected, accordingly, and reported to the Executive Housekeeper.
  • Correctly handle cleaning products, materials and laundry equipment, separate & remove garbage and place it in designated containers; clean garbage as often as needed, ensuring that separation procedures and all Public Health Standards are maintained.
  • Participate in “The Daily Reunion” every day to understand your team’s operational needs and to ensure consistent adherence to Viking’s STAR Service Standards.
  • Provide the highest level of comfort and service to Guests and consistently maintain an impeccable standard of cleanliness and hygiene in assigned areas, as per Viking’s STAR Service Standards and all Public Health Policies; proactively prepare service according to Guest flow, embarkation & disembarkation, sea day activities & other activities.
  • Ensure that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn at all times during relevant activities, such as during the loading, handling and storage of chemicals, processing contaminated linens per the Outbreak Prevention & Recovery Plan (OPRP) and other activities as required. Always use correct lifting techniques to prevent injuries.
  • Uphold impeccable grooming standards at all times by complying with Viking’s Image and Uniform Standards.
  • Ensure that company property is appropriately secured and protected, especially during rough weather conditions, in order to prevent unnecessary loss or damage.
  • Demonstrates outstanding flexibility: able to work at different times of the day, under pressure and reflect a positive can-do attitude and the best image of Viking at all times.
  • Become knowledgeable about itinerary-related ports of call, shore excursions and shipboard activities such as events, entertainment and programs.
  • Have strong motivation to achieve the company goals and objectives (quality and financial) for the Laundry Department.
  • Have full knowledge about safety & security procedures and can operate in line with all Public Health, Environmental and Safety & Security Policies; participate in all training concerning onboard training, safety & security, fire prevention, evacuation exercises as required by the company.
  • Assist in other departments and/or perform additional duties, upon instruction from supervisors.

YOUR PROFILE

  • A required minimum of 3 years plus experience as an Assistant Laundry Master or similar position, within a 5 Star hospitality environment, and a minimum of 2 years plus experience in ship operations.
  • Fluent in English - must be able to address any kind of information in an adequate manner with excellent oral English communication skills.
  • Guest-focused, service-oriented, positive personality, professional appearance and impeccable hygiene standards are required; must be flexible and stress resistant, team player, shows commitment.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of stain removal techniques with an understanding of various stains & chemical reactions.
  • Must understand various types of fabrics and have in-depth knowledge of various laundry areas, operating laundry machinery & equipment as well as dry-cleaning machinery and equipment.
  • Must have excellent knowledge of all Public Health Policies.
