OCEAN - Systems Manager

  • The Systems Manager is responsible for providing 24/7 Tier 1 & 2 technical and procedural support for all enterprise systems that are specific to shipboard operations.
  • You are required to monitor and maintain all IT systems, storage, network, and related infrastructure onboard the vessel. This includes PCs, laptops, printers, point of sale systems, servers, networks, satellite connectivity and PBX.
  • It is your responsibility to create a friendly, guest-oriented service culture to ensure guest satisfaction and repeat business, which in turn, will increase revenue and profitability of the company.



  • Perform daily operations, as detailed in Run Books and other technical documents provided during training; perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying the completion of scheduled jobs, such as backups.
  • Confirm that any back-up procedures are carried out and verified as successful, in accordance with Viking’s IT policies.
  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other policies and procedures, as instructed.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization, as required.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate hardware inventory levels and ensure that all IT equipment is in good working condition, this includes PCs, printers, point of sale systems, servers and related hardware; must demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot and repair PC and printer hardware.
  • Provide basic user training and support in using common PC software and specialized property management software, as needed.
  • Monitor and support the satellite communication systems to ensure that the system is operating to optimum performance; monitor and support the internal telephone system.
  • Keep the Leadership Team informed of any IT issues and policies that may affect shipboard operations in their areas of responsibility.
  • Lead and support a multi-cultural team, maximizing crew satisfaction, productivity and retention; meet with Team Leaders on a daily basis for “The Daily Reunion”, to provide feedback & operational updates as well as to ensure that your department is performing to Viking’s STAR Service Standards.
  • Provide competent leadership to all direct reports. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Conducting performance reviews, including discipline as needed, ensuring Maritime Labor Convention (MLC) compliance and onboard training, succession planning, crew communication and recognition.
  • Ensure you always wear the appropriate and task specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required for your duties onboard. Always use correct lifting techniques to prevent injuries. 
  • Uphold impeccable grooming standards within your team at all times by complying with Viking’s Image and Uniform Standards; ensure that company property is appropriately secured and protected, especially during rough weather conditions, in order to prevent unnecessary loss or damage.
  • Become knowledgeable and ensure your team are knowledgeable about itinerary-related ports of call, shore excursions and shipboard activities such as events, entertainment and programs.
  • Positively contribute to achieving/succeeding the KPI goals (quality & financial) for the IT Department; have full knowledge about safety & security procedures and can operate in line with all Public Health, Environmental and Safety & Security Policies; participate in all training concerning onboard training, safety & security, fire prevention, evacuation exercises as required by the company.

  • A required minimum of 2 years plus experience as a Systems Manager or similar position; a degree in Computer Science or related is required.
  • Must have basic understanding of LAN and WLAN networking; basic knowledge of integrating with third party systems including AMOS, MXP and Crystal Reports is required.
  • Experience with VMWare VSphere is preferred.
  • Fluent in English - must be able to address any kind of information in an adequate manner with excellent oral and written English communication skills – the ability to speak an additional language is an advantage.
  • Must have experience in operating systems, experience in MXP is preferred; strong administration skills are required and must be proficient with PC based databases, spread sheets, and word processing systems; flexible, stress resistant, committed team player.
  • Guest-focused, service-oriented, positive personality, professional appearance and impeccable hygiene standards are required, with excellent knowledge of all Public Health Policies; team builder with exceptional work ethic, motivational, organization and time management skills and coaching abilities.



  • Implement Standard Operating Procedures & STAR Service Standards within the department.
  • Ensure appropriate appearance and clothing according to the updated Grooming Standards.
